if i’m being 100% honest I don’t think anyone who isn’t disabled tries to get disability i legitimately do not believe it. “x amount of people make false claims” no, x amount of people who make claims are declared not disabled by the government, an institution that doesn’t give a shit about disabled people and wants to find any reason to deny us assistance. if somebody goes through the effort of applying for ssi, which isn’t a simple process, just for the CHANCE to get a max of $794 a month (but likely less.) and not even be able to save that money up. they are genuinely struggling with something. nobody would choose this if they had other reasonable options

plus the fact every once in a while the government will make you prove you are still disabled and if you aren’t disabled enough they’ll stop paying you

I applied for SSI, got denied twice, appealed both denials, and was finally approved for SSI by a judge.

Fun Fact! SSI will give you back pay for the time between your first denial and eventual approval (which for me was OVER A YEAR) and that seemed really cool until they told me they would be paying be in chunks.

$2,349 dollars every 6 months until they had paid the full back pay amount. Some of you might already see the problem here, but for those who don’t, let me explain.

SSI has this fun rule that if you ever have more the $2000 dollars in any account, you are immediately disqualified for SSI benefits.

And $2,349 dollars is, in fact, more than two grand.

So every six months for a year and a half, I would get my back payment and the same day get a call from SSI asking me why I have more than two thousand dollars in an account, when they literally gave me that money themselves.

TL:DR- SSI tried to kick me off disability benifits because I received those disability benefits.

Which indicates the true stupidity of that particular rule.

So boycotting is not something the strikers have requested, but this kind of social attention? IS VERY BAD FOR THE COMPANY. IT’S BAD PUBLICITY.

I would say this is a very good thing, pointing out the unfair terms PUBLICLY.

They also did call for a boycott AFTER the mass firing

Oh shit new information

Never mind, put them on blast and boycott as much as you can.

idk if anyone else needs to hear it but performing/not performing Gender shouldn’t be yet another glossy stylized ideal to aspire to. you can look as messy or disorganized as you feel comfortable or capable of being

the unfortunate side effect of celebrities more openly embracing gender non-conformity and the general rise of hyper-manicured instagram influencer culture even among queer people seems to be leading towards creating a new “correct way to be gnc” and spawning yet another variation on modern beauty standards–whatever happens to be trendily beautiful for the time, be they perfectly-contoured cheekbones or a sculpted ass or what have you, but now slightly to the left and imposed on every gender, when that is not and has never been the point of existing as a queer person. there truly is no right way to look like your gender or your lack of one. that’s the entire point. we should all feel comfortable rejecting any attempts to box the “queer aesthetic” and sell it back to us

Support your local libraries and the small businesses that are actually making the products you want.  Fuck Jeff Bezos and the systemic, universal worker abuse, gaslighting, and brutality they live off of.

this seems like a good thing to bring around as people holiday shop

BTW!! theres an updated version of Overdrive called Libby and its wonderful. share an account with friends from other places so you can share libraries and also check out their taste in books!!

i’m starting to realize the “friendship where we bully each other” thing is a complicated subject for me, because as a survivor of bullying and my interests being mocked for basically my entire life, i don’t really find it funny or endearing when pals do it. i don’t mind gentle insults and inside jokes, but idk, there has to be a point where you go “maybe i shouldn’t cut on my friend’s new oc or special interest” and stop yourself. i think we should all try a little harder to know that boundary and not put our friends in those situations

My best friend and I used to greet each other with insults (“hey bitch!” “wassup slut?”) and generally poke fun at each other all the time. It’s how we showed affection, just constant little pokes and prods and minor nuisances. But I noticed that these exchanges were wearing her down through little behavioral ticks, like she’d go quiet or her laugh wasn’t as bubbly. So I changed how I show her affection and now scream “hi Dawn I love you :D” at the top of my lungs when I say hi. And I hear her stifle a giggle and she answers with either “love you too” or “hiiiii, love you!!!” depending on her mood at the time.

It’s fine to have a close friendship where you can pretend to be mean to each other and you both understand that none of that meanness is real. But the second it starts to feel real to either of you, that behavior should change.

i think that like, little jokes and ribbing can be okay but you need to make sure you’re not always bullying someone about the same thing constantly

like joking ‘hey idiot!’ is fine, but if you call one of your friends stupid all the time and literally never let them have any identity other than ‘the stupid one’, thats not a joking friendship. that’s actual bullying.

It’s the difference between teasing and bullying.

It’s all about boundaries

Leaked hospital records reveal huge, automated markups for healthcare

A former nurse at Scripps Memorial Hospital showed columnist David Lazarus screenshots of the facility’s electronic health record system. The screenshots show price hikes ranging from 575% to 675% being automatically generated by the hospital’s software.

DO NOT SUPPORT SALVATION ARMY

I can back this up. It isn’t only their shelters.

I have a family friend who worked at our local Salvation Army headquarters as a a secretary. This particular office took all the Christmas donations for children in need, put them in a warehouse, and on a designated day the staff and their friends picked through them all, taking whatever they wanted. She saw people hauling away bikes donated for specific families. Some local children had hundreds of dollars of gifts donated in their name, and on Christmas they received three cheap things, items likely not even from the person who sponsored them.

My friend quit, and I’ve not given them a dime of my money since then.

Do not give to the Salvation Army.

Do Not. Give. To. Salvation. Army

My turn.

I’m a wildfire and disaster logistics specialist.

I deal with a lot of agencies who provide disaster relief.

I used to say the Salvation Army’s disaster services were the one (literally the ONE) good thing they did.

They would come in, set up a canteen trailer, make and pass out hot coffee and donated food in a disaster, usually being one of the first agencies to get there and the last to leave.

Then I found out.

Every time they did this, regardless of if they were actually invited or deployed by the agency in charge (usually FEMA, sometimes others) they would SELF-DEPLOY. Meanjng they would just show up. Ok. That’s not TOO bad, sometimes agencies have to take initiative and get there before the red tape is sorted out. BUT. They, after they left at the end of the incident, they would send FEMA or the host agency a BILL. They used one or two paid employees (usually the driver of the truck and a supervisor); and many VOLUNTEERS, but they would bill for EVERYONE’s Labor at standard federal rates. They would bill for the food they distributed even though it was all donated by another agency or private parties. They would bill for the coffee they made and the supplies. Except they would use electricity from the shelter location, water from donations or from the shelter, and in many cases, they would get the coffee and industrial filters DONATED, but bill for them at retail prices.

Don’t FUCKING give to the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army is also ass to the workers. A good number of people join it, naively thinking that it’s doing good, and end up leaving cynical and beaten down. The management is hostile, if not outright abusive, and demand some ridiculous hours of it lower to mid-level staff. Don’t support these people.

Unsettling update

Find better local charities and shelters and give to them instead!

Also just for even more horrific context on the original twitter thread?

Salvation Army reached out to Milknmuffins and asked what shelter she’s at with the promise to address the abuse in it. She…ended up saying where she was. She was thrown out onto the street. It’s also all on Twitter.

image

They invited her to a personal talk so she could explain the situation in person.

And then they threatened her with a screenshot of a rape-threat made supposedly by her:

image

And then threw her out into the street while claiming she broke house rules that

image

So yeah, the Salvation Army is a bunch of entitled assholes that will treat the most vulnerable like shit if they dare try to do anything that makes them look bad

The “Fuck Salvation Army” posts are making the rounds again, so conisder this your reminder:

Do. Not. Give. These. Assholes. A. Single. Fucking. Penny.

Do not support them in any way, shape, or form.

‘Tis the season to say FUCK the Salvation Army.

It’s important to note this is not new, and this is in 2000 cities in the US, not just Tampa. I’m not sure this is the article linked in the tweet, but gives all the info in the tweet + some & is from the same source

(Also adding this addition is aimed at fellow white people, we are the people who have had the privilege of being unaware this is happening)

Absolutely disgusting behavior from this company.

Also the experiences she had (which had nothing to do with the whistleblower thing) in the months before she was fired are deplorable and are perfect examples of why they need a fucking union.
